Solanaceae, Datura metel, devil’s trumpet, zombie cucumber

June 22, 2008

Datura metel is of similar toxicity to D. cerantocaula, D. ferox, D. stramonium, and D. innoxia.

The plant is a fast growing, robust annual. Some find the aroma of the large white and/or purplish lowers to be objectionable, I think they smell good.

The thorny capsules are seed pods, containing numerous kineyshaped seeds.

Datura metel is a neurotoxin, hallucinogen, and considered to be extremely hazardous.

Below are photos of a Datura metel is blooming. I have others planted in the ground, the potted plant is doing far better than those in the ground. The bloom is not fragrant a the moment. My yellow variety (triple-flowered) gives off a very sweet scent. Apparently, falling asleep beneath certain Datura and Brugmansia species can give rise to hallucinatory dreams.

Datura metel is native to the east Asia, D. stramonium is thought to be from Tropical America. Both have a similar range of medicinal properties. Numerous Datura species have been documented as being used by the Aztecs and modern indians as an intoxicant and halluinogen in the same way as other tropane plants of the New World. They have also been used in Europe for healing and diviniation since the 16th century.

Datura extracts have also been used (or misused) for infanticide, suicide, and murder.

Datura is used medicinally, mainly as an analgestic, used to relieve pain without loss of conscious.

The whole plant, but especially the leaves and seed, is anaesthetic, anodyne, antiasthmatic, antispasmodic, antitussive, bronchodilator, hallucinogenic, hypnotic and mydriatic. This species, and others in its genus, have a long history of use in ethnomedicine.

Caution is advised since a toxic dose can be very close to the medicinal dose. This plant should only be used under the guidance of a qualified practitioner. Many horror stories can recounted about naive individuals who decided to self-medicate with this and other closely related plants only to find themselves in a dark and scary place they never thought they would escape from, and sometimes they were right.

At low doses the alkaloids act as a depressant and sedative, but higher doses can lead to powerful “true” hallucinations, exitation, dry mouth, euphoria, confusion, insomnia, respiratory arrest and death.

The plant contains the alkaloids hyoscyamine, scopolamine, hyoscine and atropine. Atropine dilates the pupils and is used in eye surgery. Dried leaves contain .3 – 1 % tropane alkaloids (mainly hyoscyamine and scopolamine), seeds contain .6 % and roots .2 %.

How much should be used as medicinal purposes?

A tale of the two Limes:

Medicinally, this plant is impossible to dose. Burning the dried plant together with lime (chemical lime, not the citrus fruit. I added this so morons will not be making a very bad margarita) will reduce the active components to an ash which weighed carefully will be less than a fraction of a sugar packet. This should be applied to the lining of the nose of a test animal that you don’t expect to live. Be sure the test animal is secured and is incapable of biting or escaping. Have a gun handy to administer a rapid, humane coup de grace. If you use too much lime, it will still be present in the ash, you cannot use too little, but you can use way too much. Lime is used by state dept of transportation to rapidly decompose animal carcasses collected and then deposited in caches in rural locales, away from large populations. The lime is an oxidiser which is not green in colour, but white. Avoid the decomposition products (smoke) when reducing the plant to ash.
When you have satisfied your curiosity with the actions of the test animal and have subsequently been forced to destroy it, again make use of the lime to reduce the animal to ash. This will dilute the strength of the alkaloids in the plant to reasonable levels. You may then proceed to experiment on yourself. Take less than half a gram of the reduced animal ash and mix with 800ml of a good tequila in a shaker. Wet the rim of a tall glass tumbler or ice tea glass upon a new, clean, wet sponge and then press lightly into a shallow dish of good salt. I recommend fleur-de-sal or something else poofy. Whatever you do, do NOT use iodized salt. Everyone knows Iodine and Fluorine and Aluminium are additives the goverment puts in the water to control the masses. Put ice in the glass and pour the Tequila ( Use Patron or some other Macho type of tequila) from the shaker carefully over the ice, watching so that you dont pour down the poofy salt into the glass. Some of Daubin or MommaCow powder may be left undissolved on the bottom. This is normal, the active components are miscible in the water and the alcohol. What, you expected to use a cat or dog? No no no, those are way to small of a test animal, you’ll accidently poison yourself or wind up cutting off your own penis or tongue. No, you need a large draft or milk animal to dilute the fun toxins to a controllable level. I think the government sells wild mustangs for $50.00 in single quantities, with the proviso that you neither resell them to a canner nor use them as chum for sport-fishing. Ajax has been forced to stop manufacturing its gunwale mounted horse-shredder anyway so the latter prohibition is somewhat moot. Down the lot, or as much as you can in a single take, lick the rim, and bite down on a slice of Citrus Lime ( not the white powder chemical lime. added this to reduce ( ha ha) morons chances of using the wrong lime).
Wait patiently for results. ie Expect nothing to happen right away, or even in an hour or so, do NOT redose yourself, save for finishing the drink. If you’ve made a large pitcher of datura margarita, don’t finish it yourself. You can put if it in the freezer ( it wont actually freeze ) to keep it for later. Like a week later. You must then be even more patient and continue on with regular margaritas until your tongue becomes somewhat thick. You wont be able to tell the difference between the inoxia or the alchohol for quite some time. If you happen to be lazy and are then drinking the rest of the tequila bottle instead of making more margaritas, you will wake ( or not) the next morning with a very dry throat. Tequila being made from a desert plant is not seeming very thirst quenching the second day. If you have access to a slushie, slurpee, shaved-ice, or other such machine, this would be a good time to steal it, temporarily. If you plan well, you will not only have regular fruit or coloured sugar-water mixes for the second day, you will have put the inoxia mixture away in the freezer and already loaded the machine with the pretty coloured stuff before you pass out. It helps to have a dual machine. Just label the mixure with a skull and crossbones and the first one with a lime. Yes, sugar is poisonous so you should limit your intake. You can mount a lime on the handle of the good stuff by taking a fillet knife and whirling a hole into the blossom end until it looks a right fit for the handle. Again, the citrus fruit that is green coloured. Do not use lemons, especially Meyer Lemons, they are far too sweet. Do not use Key Limes, they are waaay too small. Buddha hands, ugli-fruit, grapefruit (white or ruby-red), tangerines, Oranges, tangelos, cumquats, or other. Only limes will do.

    Thanks Mr. Castaneda,

Yours is undoubtedly one of the best comments submitted to this site. Thanks for reading. Please visit again, and contribute more if you feel so inclined.

USE HUMANS LIKE YOURSELF TO TEST ON NOT HORES DUMBASS

    • March 29, 2010 10:08:17 am

From the general tone of Mr. Castaneda’s comment, it would appear he has tested the effects of Datura quite extensively on himself. It is also quite likely that the numerous exploits detailed in the comment are purely fictitious.

I agree entirely with anthromes, Mr.Casteneda seems to understand this plant better than most people and if there is ever a zombie apocalyose then im sure he would know what to do.

    salary website
That is definitely something I need to go along with.
