Ziziphus mauritiana, fruit, leaf, seed, tree – Baja, Mexico

June 16, 2011

I took these photos at Buena Fortuna, Gabriel Howearth’s botanical garden in Baja, Mexico. The tree seemed to be highly productive and was continuously dropping fruit through the day and night. The fruit will fall from the tree and dry on the ground. They have the best flavor when dry. Very few insects and animals seem to eat the fallen fruit.
