Magnolia stellata – Berkeley, CA

February 22, 2013

Magnolias are blooming all over Berkeley. There’s quite an impressive diversity. Here is a black and white photo I took in the afternoon of the Star Magnolia, M. stellata.

I have a small but hardy stellata we planted in our side garden. We had 3 large grey kangaroos invade the garden the other day. The bushfires have pushed them out of the undergrowth and have removed their natural vegetation and they are hungry…enter my (apparently) tasty garden and 3 large kangaroos that could do with a meal and they are also tag teaming my enclosed veggie garden by shoving the netting hard to get to the green bounty within…who says native animals aren’t smart! I guess we veggo’s have to stick together in hard times and I don’t need ALL that spinach 😉
