Guttiferaceae (Clusiaceae), Garcinia ? – Gabon
June 10, 2012
A friend sent these photos of a tree in his yard in Gabon, wondering if I could help him ID it. Looks similar to G. tinctoria (Gamboge, Guttiferaceae) to me, but I know it’s a fairly large genus, could be something different. The seed of this tree was originally collected in a village in Equatorial Guinea, although it could have been brought over by missionaries. Any thoughts/suggestions from readers welcomed and appreciated.

Mammea africana
Definitively a Garcinia and the form of the opened fruit looks like a gamboge , not sure if this is an African native…
