We stratified a bag full of sweet chestnuts (accidentally…I forgot about them in the vegetable crisper) and decided to see if they would grow and we got a really good germination rate. I wonder how many of our 50 sweet chestnuts we could feasibly grow on our 4 acre property? (1 would be my guess with their eventual spread). Cheers for this look at what our little babies might some day wear as an overcoat 🙂
Nice. Yes, they become quite large. I’ll upload a photo of some of the rest of this one pictured above. Massive. but it was also probably a few hundred years old. Maybe try to pop a few in on your property, along boarders, in corners, and then pot the rest up to give away/ sell, or to sneak into areas surrounding your property. Maybe you’re neighbors would want a couple trees…
