Morningaceae, Moringa drouhardii – Kenya

December 16, 2011

This is a tree I photographed in Kenya. Thanks to a reader of this blog I now know what species it is, Moringa drouhardii. Native to Madagascar. Relative of M. oleifera and M. stenopetala. I’ll find out more info and post it.

It’s Moringa drouhardii from Madagascar, in the Moringaceae, cousin to the much more common Horseradish Tree, Moringa oleifera. M. drouhardii is one of two Malagasy Moringas, the other being Moringa hildebrandtii. Both are bottle trees.

Great, thank you very much. I thought the flower and leaf definitely resembled moringa. I’ve grown M. Oleifera and M. Stenopetala. Never heard of drouhardi before now. This one has to be my favorite so far. Thanks again for the info….
