Annonaceae, Asimina triloba, Paw Paw

The fruit of this small tree are native to, and cultivated in, the eastern and southern United States and southeastern Canada, and commonly eaten by human beings. A small fraction of the population is sensitive to this plant, reacting with contact dermatitis, but it is less well known that certain individuals may exhibit severe gastrointestinal symptoms after ingestion of the ffruit even though insensitive to contact of the plant with the skin.
