Liliaceae, Asphodeline lutea, Yellow asphodel, Montenegro
April 11, 2010
This is a perennial plant with an erect stem covered in many narrow leaves. It is typically found in infertile, stony locations. The flowers are yellow, packed in a dense raceme at the tip of the stem. The plant can form large communities and, according to Homer, it is in one such meadow in Hades where the souls of the Dead are gathered.
The tender stems are edible.
