Fabaceae, Mora oleifera

October 22, 2009

This is the seed. I don’t have any other photos of the tree.

This tree is especially interesting for its association with mangroves, often growing in flood-prone, brackish coastal swampland. It is found from Ecuador to Costa Rica.

The wood of this species is used in heavy construction. Historically it has been used to build railroad cars.
