Bee house, Central Kenya

October 8, 2009

Here are photos of two different bee accommodations. The one made out of a hollow log was at the home of a woman who operated a fairly diverse and impressive domestic scale agrosiliviculture system, complete with and abundance of bee forage species and bees. The large bee house was connected to an experimental agroforestry demonstration plot incorporating edible species, hardwoods, cattle integrated with the hardwood agroforestry plantations. Many of the hardwoods were native bee forage. I’m not sure what it looked like inside the house, I’m assuming it was full of individual boxes housing bees.
